1912 Newfoundland 10 Cent Coin

Newfoundland officially joined Canada at midnight on March 31, 1949. Before that they were a British territory. It is the easternmost province of Canada.

This little guy is composed of .925 silver & .075 copper. There were 150,000 minted in 1912. This one is still in decent shape and I like the simple design on the reverse of this coin.

On April 29, 1999, the government passed a motion in the Newfoundland House of Assembly requesting the federal government amend the Newfoundland Act to change the province's name to "Newfoundland and Labrador". The name chance was officially recognized on December 6, 2001.

The obverse of this coin is not so great. You have the profile of an old rich guy with lots of abbreviated words. Lame.

GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND:IMP: = George V, Dei Gratia Rex, Indiae Imperator = George V, By the grace of God, King and Emperor of the Indies 🖕🖕🖕

So dumb, stupid kings think they are so great. Ridiculous.

Anyhow, I do like the coin. I picked it up from M Barr Coins on eBay. These guys have tons of coins on auction all the time. https://www.ebay.com/str/mbarrcoins.

It's a little dangerous as I see lots of cool things go by. This one was only $4.25 so not bad.

Have a gr8 weekend :D

Love it. I always like snapping up pre-confederation coins.

Hmmm, this is something I need to look more into. I have no idea how Canada even became Canada. This is a cool coin.

Wow... you paid $4.25 for a dime. A Canadian dime no less. How are you not as wealthy as Elon?

Really neat coin. Like you, I kind of dig the simplicity of the reverse. Yeah, those damn Kings think they just need long ass names and own everything.😁

Hell yeah I accept! 🍁

Slight problem though, I have a Gretzky jersey and it seems some of your countryfolk are ready to expatriate him for giving the US team a thumbs up xDDD

I didn't realize Newfoundland is such a [relatively] new part of Canada! Cool fact to learn! 🍁

Me either! But don't forget it's called Newfoundland and Labrador as of 2001. I wonder if folks in Canada actually use that full name? I'd bet not.

Yes, Newfoundland was a different country until they went broke. Central Canada offered a bailout and joined up for the cash.

It's all quite interesting to someone that grew up in US public school which barely taught us anything real about our history much less even mention Canada.

Nice coin! I've bought from them before too, they tend to have good prices on their auction but some of their inventory is pretty lousy condition wise! For 113 years old that thing looks great!
