Watercolor Painting

(Edited)

Hello guys! Missed painting already. I have been processing my OJT application the whole week and thought I need a little break from it so for today I will be sharing to you another random painting I made using Simbalion watercolor and a sketch pad. To be honest I cut the lowest quarter of the paper for I smudged big time (HAHAH). For professional artist out there reading this, did you do such thing for once in your life? I apologize to the forces of the universe for doing so but I really do not feel like not finishing my work just because of the mistake I cannot undo (HEHE).

Now allow me to show you the finished product first. As you can see, the cut is so obvious so I cannot keep that a secret so please just never mind the magic I did with this painting as I indulge you to the process (HAHA).

PROCESS

Firstly, I sketched using a 2B pencil. From my past paintings, I did not think of putting backgrounds and just focused on the portrait. For this one, I decided to make a little something from the rest of the paper. But hey I guess I should not say "rest of the paper" because my subject is not so large though (HEHE).

Next, I opt to color the background first to make it lush greens. I have been thinking about summer and all I can remember is going out of the house and away from buildings and the city so this was relaxing for the greens make the paint give hints of summer.

Then I pushed with a little detailing of the leaves. I cannot make efforts of pursuing perfect shadows yet so I managed a little different shades of green by adding amounts of water to make the color less saturated. For I have only 16 colors to choose from. Heheh but I guess that is more than enough for a beginner though. So this is how it looks like after.

I feel content now with the background colors so I continued with the woman. I chose light colors for a light touch. I am not so much a fan of dark colors and Simbalion gives me the tint I want :)

Lastly, I traced my sketch from the first step to highlight the drawing. I used 0.4 Pilot G-Tec Pen. I always use this trick when I cannot highlight the original drawing by just using the watercolors. So this is now again the finished product.
