Moving to Europe - Daily steps going up and resting heart rate going down
Leaving a car centric society
I have left Brazil almost 1 year ago. Long story but I went to Japan, expected to be there for less than 1 year and then return to Brazil, ended up staying there for almost 3 months, plus 2 weeks in Vietnam, 2 weeks in Austria and getting a resident permit to live in Spain, where I plan to live long term and where I have been for around 9 months give or take.
Brazil is a very car centric society, the cities are low density so usually stuff is not nearby, so everyone has to have a car. Spain, and Europe from my experience in general, is more walkable and has higher density. As a result there is no reason to have a car, you can just walk or at most take the (very good) public transportation.
Walking, health and resting heart rate correlation AND CAUSATION
Walking is exercising and the more exercise the better your heart gets at pumping blood. This can be seen by the resting hart rate, the lower your resting heart rate IN GENERAL (not always but that is another topic) the better your health is).
Over the past year my average heart rate has been 71bpm but has been trending down as the chart shows, the average has been as high as almost 80 almost 1 year ago, which means I USED TO BE VERY UNFIT:

My daily walked steps has been trending higher and higher and my resting heart rate has been going down as my health improves, I will let the health app tell you the story:
6 months average:

1 month average:

1 week average:

1 day average

From barely 4k steps and 70 bpm to 11k steps and 60 bpm. Not only the numbers tell a clear story but the graphs paint the clear trend of steps going up and resting HR going down.
Moving to Europe has been great for my health!
